Alchemizing The Moment

May
Woodbine Chamber Louisville, KY

New Moon Greetings,

I’ve been back in Seattle for about a month now. The liminal transitions between touring, projects, and home, always take me a couple of weeks to navigate (just finished catching up on emails). I’ve been sitting with the feelings from the residency, especially the unexpected ones. It was a gift not just for the time and support I received, but for the way it rekindled my artistic focus and spirit. I already miss the church, along with the beautiful clawfoot bathtub where I stayed (which is also an Airbnb if you find yourself in Louisville).

This month’s audio is a reflection on my songwriting process during my time at the Woodbine. I’m currently in the final stages of mixing music from my recent sonic adventure, and as a way to reflect, I’ve been reading Minimalist Music by George Grella Jr. (part of the 33 1/3 series). The book delves into the idea that music is fundamentally about time and how we use it, shape it, and let it shape us. “There is music without rhythm, there is music without melody, but there is no music without time.” It reminds me that creating music is like stitching together a sonic quilt, capturing a moment in time, no matter what sounds come together.

One of my goals this year is to follow the artistic energy, not curate it. It’s a shift away from my workaholic tendencies, and it’s one of the biggest lessons this body of work has taught me. The tarot cards of the year are Wheel of Fortune/Magician year, which feels like the perfect alignment. Wheel of Fortune means movement and following it and the Magician, alchemizing the moment.

Poll Thing and Ideas…

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how this landscape has changed so much since I’ve been active online. And this month is my yearly solar return so I am doing a poll thing.

thank you <3

Guitar Meet-Ups

Since February, I’ve been hosting a monthly in-person guitar meet-up in the PNW. Originally, started from requests by newer (1-2 years in) adult guitar players. Wanting a friendly and supportive space to practice chords, scales, rhythm, and melody with others at a similar level. It’s been inspiring and fun. Pictured above is Slyvia, Carla, and Bacchus, the dog. Carla has been learning how to use chords up and down the neck and Slyvia’s goal is to be in a punk rock band.

If you’re interested or would like to start a meet-up in the PNW (I also visit Chicago and Milwaukee regularly), message me.
