Courage isn’t always loud.

New Moon Greetings,

As someone who believes deeply in patterns, science and magic, I’ve always had mixed feelings about Western astrology. Sure, I can see common traits among signs, but I’ve never fully bought into the whole Mercury Retrograde thing—until this month. Between a rescheduled show, sprained ankle and music camps reshuffling, it felt like the cosmos had taken over my calendar.

This past year has been all about trying to find the balance between what I need to do and where the universe seems to be nudging me. Right now, I'm in teaching and planning mode, with shows on the horizon.

And Thank You, Falling Tree Story has landed. It’s creation first took root during the surreal days of 2020, when the skies above burned orange from forest fires and the world stood still in lockdown. It is a story of empowerment and embodiment and I am looking forward to performing it.

Also thank you for your patience as I continue to get the hang of Substack’s features and layouts. If you've received a flood of “upgrade” links—my apologies, I’m grateful you’re here.

New Offering -

Teacher Coaching/Mentorship Class

I am now offering private classes to support teachers. If you are interested in becoming a teaching artist or looking to expand your creative teaching toolkit, I can meet you where you are.

I have been teaching almost as long as I have been an artist. With many years of experience leading in-person and online workshops, group classes and private lessons in guitar, piano, voice, songwriting and band. Through my own practice and collaborating with a wide variety of schools and social justice organizations. I have taught students ages 4 - 75, from beginners to professional artists, including supporting those with learning differences and special needs.

This one on one class, is born out of years of conversations with fellow artists who wanted guidance, encouragement and advice on teaching. I offer grounded and practical support to help you thrive.

Musical Choice- Demo, The Roses Courage

Wandering Tale- Courage Isn’t Always Loud

Ever realize a wish is just a phone call away—all you have to do is ask?

When I made album Book of Echoes, it was my first time working intentionally with magic and musical keys. I wanted the songs to be more than melodies—I wanted them to be healing spells. I was going through a tough time and needed to feel more embodied in the music. I was also deep in studying Hermeticism, especially the seven Archangels.

“The Roses Courage” this months, musical choice is the original demo. Dedicated to Archangel Michael, a protector. I had this vision of a music video with femme skateboarders—graceful, fearless, and strong, a perfect metaphor. So I took the leap, made a few calls, and what came back was something more powerful than I’d imagined.

Earlier this month, I led my first week-long music camp of the summer with three radiant kids, ages 6, 8, and 10. The 8-year-old—let’s call her O.—has been learning guitar with me for over a year. Our bond isn’t just about music; it’s a creative trust that goes both ways. Sometimes I think we need a better word than “teacher”—something that reflects the mutual growth that happens between artists, no matter their age or experience.

O. is a natural songwriter, grounded and glowing. Her parents are supportive, but her light is her own. At camp, it was clear she’d be the lead on one of our songs. Her bandmates were ready to follow her. But privately, she told me she was holding back—afraid she might outshine them.

I told her something I’ve had to remind myself of many times: shining doesn’t make others smaller. It gives them permission to shine too. Courage isn’t always loud—sometimes it’s a quiet song you’re still learning to believe in or following thru on a dream idea.

Until the next new moon,

KF
